the very top great got a nicelittle apartment is on the skin you knowwhat I when the kids were younger grillbut we had a weber grill with thecharcoal Vosloo so i guess yeah I meanmy gosh what has it become since wellit’s it’s an expensive hobby yes wellyou went inside right yeah and you sawit’s like a playground yes it isgrilling rightyou know they’ve got you know the pelletover there they’ve got the Napoleon thepudding yeah we’re right it’s a hobbyright I mean there’s more than justcooking for the family yeah it’s kind ofa hobby balance oh no I know it’s justmy wife at home that we got throughSmokey Joe’s that’s all we got it’s notbragging rights to you know if you gotpeople over the house and allow me howoften their team but no huh people overmy house all the time I’m still a workin progress right with grilling andactually one of the concepts for thispodcast was I would go online to learnhow to cook some things and I’ve seenthese YouTube videos but these good oldboys and it would take them you knowforever to get to what I needed them togive me and I was like this is notentertaining so that’s actually part ofthe concept the idea when I try to makeit entertaining cook some food we have agrill cam you know for the finishedproduct that people view online thatthey’ll see a sheet over at the KJcooking it up and then we eat webullshit for a little bitall right you want to go to some wingsbring them over when they’re ready andit took to talk to Tony about wrestlingbut I guess outside of one year rasslinyeah I guesswell the WCW inverts I’ve got the rightidea right that was I started with JimCrockett Promotions in 83[Music]well I can remember watching NWA and youstarted your careeroh you love the funky brothers love youmonkey brothers they never won rightexcept for that one net to make it intothe Crockett I was so excited for thosefellows coming a regular purple trunksevery dayand they would get sloshed it didn’tmatter who it was we’d only get sloshedyou know it you look back at whatwrestling was then versus what it is nowand how far it’s come in 30 years or youknow it’s not like I blow your mindwell it’s it’s changed its it’sobviously like everything else haschanged all sports have changedyes TV has been the biggest reason forthe change back when I started as anarena sport television just ready youknow to get you to go theory and nowit’s TV showing itself to get you tocome back next week to watch a TV showthat interesting story about the multibrothers now leaving looking family thisPlease Please Please I love them I loverisks okay you remember when they wonbut the match to go to the Crockett cuffokay they didn’t know they were going towin that match yes I know who did therestaurant they wrestled they put youguys in the masks and called him likethat’s right say they call theywhat was Gary boy almost another guy Ican’t they they the Crippler isdestroyers or something some crazy nameand the idea was one of the monkeys themother one of who was going to pick upthe monkey and trip over the other andthe monkey was falling for the one twothree well the monkey the monkey brotherthat covered him didn’t know it wassupposed to be a means of curry so whenthey got the one when the record calledone two three we all celebrated themonkeys thought they had messed up andone by accident and they were upset sowe we go to David Crockett and Davidgoes to one of the monkeys and it’slight was a lot of funny things everit’s like hey you wanted what we wantedthey didn’t know they were supposed towin they thought they were gonna get introuble with dusty who was the Booker inthe back of it yes I remember it wastime to rip yeah yeah it was kind of arip on them everybody knew they weregonna win except thisoh that’s it whatever happens I’ve seenthem at a at a convention we dowrestling dimensions you know placeabout three years ago in Charlotte usallit’s a recipe and not that I’m good Imean gosh there’s so much independentwrestling going on that they’re MiaGreinke and Robert Morris rested rescuecenterit’s amazing to me really amazing to methat linking Roberts to rusticate causeI didn’t think they could get a pass toget on the nursing home to Russia andwhat the hell there they areyeah we just stood out that long agothey did a spot with like bring him onor something that you are yeah and youknow I mean outside them you can’t youcan’t beat you know time right I meantime so we’re gonna see it but you knowit’s like it still to rock-and-rollexpressing you remember back in the theywrestled a lot of different places yeahI think we’re the aw yes they come outthe rock all right well you know likeI’ve got through spot memory as you knowas a kid you know I remember whenColonel DeBeers pushed Jimmy Snuka offthe top look and once his head openright and bloods everywhere and I’m akid going oh my god yeah real right youknow bam bam bigelow in the crowd thisgiant man with a white t-shirt getskicked out of a crowd just a fan to getin the ring and I look that kind ofstuff all this stuff yeah that’s thatsense that stuff you grew up with younever forgetagain about Ricky and Robert I toldRicky and I talked to not long agoRobert still lives here and Douglassroom all right and Ricky lives I thinksomewhere Tennessee and October I guesswe’ve got to be careful now to both ofhis age because it’d be takes a crazycoffee small small we’re gonna have tochange their name to give me a waiver sowhat was it that God you go all the wayback to the beginning because I want toknow how you’ve got into the business aseven being out of the business for asmany years as you were and then now backwith aew you were always such arecognizable face in name associatedwith wrestling right nobody see doesn’tyou obviously mostly but how did youinitially get into the business well Iwas a baseball guy I first of all youever do jigna it was a big baseball fanfana Jim Crockett Promotionsmid-atlantic championship wrestling RicFlair walking with a Jewish the brothersthe graduate college II only baseballdid that for a year and with Charlottedouble visionand I knew that with Charlotte she knewsomethingI don’t know strands of rocketrejuvenated sister David brought thesister ran the baseball team Menomineewent down there to be with her she hiredme on the spotI’m gonna firstto all of able to buy to their podcastitself Frances you guys in the houseI can I was a fan I think I can do thisand it’s been two years really baseballand then at the end of 83 season shecalled me in their office with and shesaid okay they doyou kidding me she knows she said we’lldo it she said but I can tell you rightnow I know you’re gonna do a good job sothis may lead to something elseand it wasn’t like woot later they hadme now on the camera doing the localinterviews through the mid-atlanticchampionship personally done with theshowawesome there at the beginning of 1984they have eaten of the commentary to seeall the we then and then will they needthey both the vice chair will chantingon TV to Division I baseballApril of 84 so for starting at CBS 45remember your first contract to thatperson I never pushed under got arrestedoh yeah it was with WCW 1999 was it justnot as organized and structured like itis now yeah it was a different businessand all the guys all the talent in thebusiness back then worked as independentcontractors so you got paid on 1099 yougot paid per event work so I would getpaid for every time I work on CBS orevery time we’d go out be a ringannouncer they pay me there I believesome of those do every time I did a showthey completely I still got a face fullsalary and they they continue paying memy baseball side which isso how do they get guys at that time Imean that was to me and this is not thatlong ago how did they get guys to stayin the NWA[Applause][Music]Tatombasis for pizzaso people could go do that’s what theydid back there was really publicterritory days you would build for theaw good being that relationship that hewas respected by the yearsthen you go to lets a company know youkind of stuck were if you were hot thanyou were making money you stayed in thatterritory until they the promoter saysyou can’t use anymore but the promotersalways say like we can’t do anymore butwe got a place for you to go to mix outthe rest they would it was kind ofgentleman is really your trade down itwas very good did you look at it the waythat I think fans looked at it as herewere tears with New York with the WWFWWE now being the top tier you alwayswanted to get there because you werewith the WWF in a minute but was did youlook at it like I’ve got to get to NewYork I think later we did I think backin the seventies and eighties no I thinkRuss was just looking everythingeverything was not even that there wasno nationwide promotion I think I thinkwhen the superstation started werechampionship wrestling started on thesuperstationthat’s when is changed internationalbut resting looks very much a virtualconnection nobody was really capableover TV so I I think later on yeah 90sand 2000 W users yesterday when did youknow that the WCW was going to give theWWE major competition I think when nitrostarted in 1995 and we started livemovie night show and when they startedtheoh it’s cool that was so but I thinkreally what turned us around was thereyeah that was sending me Jean sectionyou got me tickets is my neighboroh really yeah hook it up god bless meJean I love ya bless me and Jane yeahyeah I uh but that was I think that’swhat pretty good yeah cuz you neverthought you were sitting here still inthe wrestling you know there no internetyou know the blurring of reality andfiction they’re still there you have tobelieve it no one in a million yearsever thought that we would see Hogan goyeah no it just it was just unfathomableyeah and it was unfathomable and if yougo back and you look at it again and I’mwatching again it’s he just did such anamazing job I mean II know really reallygood more the great deal truthfulhe may work in that that’s better less[Music]Hogan had come here in 94 come to WCW94s Hulk Hogan and he wrestled Ric Flairat Orlando at Ashley Beach and one daysagobut until we turn the lid that we won’tthis one we didn’t really that we saywho was your reaction not even duringthe rut no no I know oh yes Wesley waslike any other excitement there tinnersit’s and I’ve worked on I work on somemovies I worked onso I know how things can be vaccine eacharea three bikesthat day we heard thatpossible but they had talked mutual sowe also hurt their heart and we werejust hold we don’t know who[Music]see supposed to walked out I didn’t knowif it was coming out we didn’t know wesaid that he actually turn so that’sentry idea I was in Orlando was inOrlando at the time and I was still inUniversity of Florida good night and soI’m at the gym in Oviedo which is rightup the streetthis world’s gym and Scott Hall and Iwas such a big scholar as Ramon familyand it’s funny because I’ve seen everyyear Diamond Dallas Page is Christmasparty and I still would not plugged inthe line anyway so I see them using theslot machine lay downsluts doing squats wearing this goofydress a workout out with the shortshorts and tank topmr. Hall hi I’m sorry to bother you myname is JC bailey I’m gonna be it – thebeach this weekend just wanted peopletell me the college game I’m 22 yearsoldwe’ve given this no it’s just likebecause you know who these people do isI’m like I think it’s so cozy you gowell that’s good gifts right hot it’sreally good gifts we just have to waitand see yeah Oh like all right gonnawork outnever forget that that’s never forgetthat it’s those things that make WCWgoes you know go to a place where theWWF couldn’t compete right you know Imean they got what I would say desperateyou know being there doing business youknow when you have competition you’vegot another content you start going atyour competition did it until theresorry guys but from the WCW standpointwhen you’re looking at it going wow wecould possibly put it down there was atime where bitchesBerkeley shop still has a podcast everyweek[Music]so there was a and I know Eric but avery pointed goodness out of business Ialways thought that there’s we had aGlen immediate was a shopping centerMinnesotaand I remember him saying that he wouldnot rest he persisted until he wasmistaken in his heart and he said thatmy word and now he’s working for thingsright and sniping so it was sweeter justnot weird that I would assumed to thatfor the guys that have been around forfor a while for a minute like himself asBischoff and Vince it’s hard not topersonal grudges you know even PaulHeyman these W days versus versus Vinceand now they don’t work for this it’stime I don’t know now that burns as muchas it did in here right you know becausenow it’s it’s a different day in age youknow everybody’s older a lot more matureyou got work somewhere you gotta collectthe picture right right but like thetime I’m sure that I must kill you knowyou’re right one thing that I noticegetting older is that time here’s all ormakes things not a stingsoleave that for you to evinces probablyset those things outside misnomer sincemy the other day trying to explain to anon-resident man how wrestling is backinto the mainstream it’s because of youknow my dinner is Jeanette and we havekids and we grew up on Saturday at W adress washer into the WCW might had warsof the WWF and now those guys are stillaround so you can relate to that butthen you have these new dress servicesnew stars with new promotions and soit’s it’s a bonding experience it’s kindof like you know my generations father’staking us to the Coliseum and whereverand you would go and see these carts andthey would tell you about the days ofgoing seeing Bruno SammartinoBaron von masculine you know howwrestling used to be that it’s almostlike it’s skipped a generation and nowit’s back to it was right yeah it is nowyou can the stars we have[Music]the boxit’s got features thank youmake sure that they’re a harder questionso things are actually can watch itregular basis we couldn’t very case youtoowe had a lot of the stars in atw becausethey’re so social media-drivenyou could follow their lives and theirstorylines even without the broadcastright it’s great that’s right so let’stake for example the initial night ATWon tnt for 10 20 years and then littlejrn Excalibur’s i I know as a wrestlingfan I’d say a little bit more than acasual wrestling fan when I wasn’tfamiliar with some of the guys overthere you did such an amazing job I textyou see at night but for our audience anamazing job in the first 10 minutes ofthat broadcast storytelling to set me upbut what that show is going to providefor me as a fan I was that’s all I couldthink about that’s all I got out of thatwhole broadcast was this story you toldin the first 10 minutes no Jared I sellwhat I need we did our job we can wetalk about that during our production mewe thought we talked about you knowwe’ve got guys that we know that arevery famous on the internet we gottogether be at least the young bucks inthose days but we even thatand they have never seen know who theyare and try to tell a story because itgets kind of course materials the bestname – it’s just like any other buggy tohave a foreigner in them if you identifybut the good guy or even really that’skind of all the matches we had in ourshow women’s match – it’s all abouttelling stories if we told the story gotyou bested into it well in the strategywith the card I didn’t realize thisuntil maybe two or three days later popsin my head so the curtain drew imaginetonight is what Rosie some dude we’regonna pay that yeah you know what thehell’s the dude wanna pin anybody but heends up coming out at the end to joinwhat might be an infection right which Ithought was so clever because I had noidea who it wasbut still involved with the post matchinterview that if you go away Jerichocomes in and they’re at Saudi he’s thereand kind of X I just thought everythingabout it was was so simplistic and itmade sense WWE at times but it makes alittle bit more complicated than itneeds to be right and I can’t speak forthat but from thisbecause they’re getting one thing I knowabout working on TV shows is that if youhave like a fluffy TV show you can arguea point and get opinions you wantwriters they knowso the wrestlers in charge of noemployee cons in charge of Tony Kahn andgo heroes do people pitch them theirideas and their storylines later theyrun around they call them down but as awe go go to Jericho and there’s astoryline in Jericho versus OK in whichwe could do itguys who has been in this rock that waswith their I think always anxious theguys who aggression why I think foryears you know in fact when we weretalking in the eighties the dusty is abook or a trip there was changingDusty’s hooker but he always took ourpleasure even with their view he wasbooking the match yeahand so I mean that’s like at some pointin time you’re like all right look we’vewrestled enough times and I’ve lost IIthink it might be time for you to put meover oh yeah I don’t think dusty reallyyeahyou see a lot of dust me and Cody youknow what I do creatively but war iswhat they like for instance dusty cookedI talked about this interesting storyCody was who he is like looking on bothlove similarities in that we love StarTrek Star Wars fantasies you don’t likethey wanna hear that sorrow was a StarTrekpushy that’s okay you know there’sexplorers and then there spiders there’sWars and there’s there’s no words andthere’s nothing elseWow just okay my two cents but I’minterviewing news if you go ahead so wewould like know who I can vote as mostbut dusty was big into cowboy John Wayneand he is in that building tells me thestory that he was very young they wentto a wrestling show or they went he’sdead to my Weston trip and they went toa quarter horse machine[Music]what the hell is that quarterhorse musicso that’s how they do the meats of theshooter grill podcasts are amazingthanks to Terry in Atlanta steaks andseafood dot-com you gotta have good meatyeah i grill it up you got to have thebest in the business that’s what Terryis so wherever you’re at he can ship itto you or drop it offAtlanta steaks and seafood calm thanksTerry Cody Rhodes is the epitome of ageneration well as far as and I say thatwith much respect in a positive way wellhey look I’m just not happy working forthe Machine of a man I think I can do itbetter myself right and I’m gonna do itbetter myselfwatch it right then he does it and sofar so goodyeah I mean the show’s leading up to theteam to broadcast live tonight so nominutes if I saw it coming but there isa group of people fans wrestling fansthat want the same thing is going in thebox that’s what you guys because youguys are not making a fight noit’s an alternate that’s the way you’relooking where did they come with youthe days because I’m sure you were shotright yeah I had I had been working a[Music]new that I heard themmaybe had this first event that they hadwhich is called out when the need tomake all this video and every time theywanted me to comethen they had an end every way of inNashville that I got permission aboutI try to contract me now don’t you thinkthatit’s just a little bit of extra money myBruce Prichard doesn’t podcast us we alldo but I’m confident I do one prettymuch run this shop does go oner doneit’s kind of a network so so Bruce toldme where she’s going to work back intothen we don’t really and he says and Igo back to the Select push leader he’sone day like today to go to me he saidI’ll see if there’s anything for teaso I finally called and said thisthere’s interest here andhe said we’d be back in time okay so Iimmediately called Conrad who’s speakingI open my toast Conrad I said Bruceis it interesting each group surroundedpossibilityand this Cody sends whenever we’retalking minutesTony sends me a text and I want you toand I send the text back I say where youguys haveso we went back and forth with NWAcalled Bruce who said we’ll have a HRlady in touch with HR lady tells me whatdo you need we come back we come back Isaid I’ve got I’ve got a commitment withthe Georgia Bulldogs Illamasqua overthere she go – I still got to do thatshe’s how much money do you need -International and she said okay we’ll beback in touchthey was behind in here today Cody callgates of Utahso I’m hopingwent down the Jacksonvillethe death of Jackson abstain in themiddle because all day be it’s aseven-hour me yeah I got there like 10o’clock in the morning left like it wasgood that’s a good meeting that is agood me but it was finally we would allof the stadium talk to people you knowand he offered me a deal for me reallygood money and I said well I told him Igot I got a wait to hear what they letme knowhe’s not getting he said they’d all bemore money than I’m off duty initiativesweet head so the girl called me backshe said still nothing said alright thenwe were pushing up towards SummerSlamnow and I’mTony I said no I think thereI said so I haven’t heard anything yetbut even if it’s like a million dollarsa year some of you assumed I never saidso right before SummerSlam she calledand she said we’ll talk to you aftersighs okay the Monday after SummerSlamthis lady calls me was Meredith is shesays thank you very much for interestbut there’s nothing good for youI said matter sweetie you guys mighthave to be it’s not I didn’t contact youso demeaning yeah I know that I callTony Amelia said yeah I manatees okaywe’re in and that was on Monday SaturdayBruce Prichard calls back did you hearanything yetyes I sure did there’s nothing there forme and I’m Simon de ww-p sure I didn’tknow that I’m sorry and that’s that’sso the severity didn’t know I don’t knowthat yeah I don’t know what happenedthat’s I mean I was told I was told bythem that I did have a job at the WWE itwas going to be a producer[Applause]I really like doing announcing but a job[Music]I don’t know what the good news is isthat our tuna this company here we’relooking for the ears and that still dothe Georgia Bulldogs with you you’reshooting a lot of stuff I know someproductions you got hereright but some of its not like Nashvilleno we do all our production you all yeahDDP my studio they’ve uh they’ve got agreat choice of yours manager Eddie he’suh he’s a secret weapon yes he is abusiness yeah in weird Louie and Garrettthere they got we’re talking about DDPDiamond Dallas Page has got aperformance studio right outside ofAtlanta and Smurfs were away and it’sgorgeous it is and DDP will tell youthis it was paid for by his appearanceon Shark Tank sure there was no dealthat was ever made but so many peoplesigned up for his DDP yoga DDP yoga calmbangle welcomed that they were able toput together this amazing performancestudio and they have all these differentrooms these guys that work out of theretalking about you know Gareth and Dylanand Nathan and all these guys sotalented and they were wrestling marksto the fullest I mean these guys livethe restaurant they used to live withDallas in his old house which is crazythe whole slowness in me and Steve gotan office you know and in Dallas hishouse so that’s that’s funny I have afeeling that eventually atw moved to CBSreally and it’ll be back because I knowlittle inside informationokay there were some years back the WWEwas actually trying to get on the TV itdidn’t work out when there was a certainperson in charge of turning it just itwasn’t a right fit but I think with thepeople that run TBS or Turner now it’solder now it’s all different TVoverdrive I you know TBS has got theheritage with usyeah that’s not a good televisionmr. they thinking to know about continueI don’t know tini has changed so much Iknow it’s a I think there’s a two-yeardeal Tod right now that was it but I doknow that our debut was[Music]when you tried to counter program withyour NXT product rightwhich is a great product being almostlike feel sorry for some of theseyounger guys and girls that are gettingcaught up within the business aspect ofthem when they were looking at it askind of the developmental growth nowit’s considered a third brand right butit’s probably good for them I think it’sgreat point yeah if you think aboutthey’re in they’re in development itsdevelopment of territory but now they’refoot elevated on TV time spot so itmakes them grow up a little bit quickeras far as restaurateurs to where some ofthe hidden weapons in aw I mean you’veseen wrestlers go from nobodies thesuperstars right some of the wrestlersthat you see may be W now who do youthink has that star power then from allpower adventure well I obviously thekenny omega of young bucks cody all theguys who are on the elite have that theyare the there are big starsstorynow they have so much merchandise[Music]good healthythere’s a kidthings happen his faceyeah yeah we’ll see you on that SycamoreLanta he may be here he’s straight edgethat’s like no drugs no alcoholyeah was he uh there’s that show oneither the beyond young wrestling showthere’s another show called The Wrestlerthey go I think I know you’re talkingabouthe does which is either spectacularjiffy epic not the partI likeJoey Genoaanother guy these guys do somebodythat’s how presidentfor the wrestling thatah okay the ECW brand is almost stoodthe test of timeyeah you know with all those chair shotsfinish is crazy you know go back bringour weapons Rio mutters things like whatso I think we’re gonna really enjoyseeing Darby island and the demands[Music]I might add a pageyeah yeah that guy he just said you knowthere’s certain people that have likethis hip factornever met the guy never talked to theguy you know but he talked about thatthe different look of today’s wrestlerhe’s kind of got that but still a littlethrowback you know what I mean what agreat gimmick right something cool andnow it’s up it’s up to us to get youinvest into his care yeah[Music]building him up leading to his messagewith the chair ago where we sort of rangfor TV but now thatwasn’t it one of the things in thewrestling business that you’re only asgood as the guy that push you over nowso you have to work with the right guyI’m going to go in with anybody butthey’re going to give you a crap matchand they’re not going to make you lookold that’s right pointless exactly soyou got to really team these guys upwith the right opponents that was one ofthe reasons that Ric Flair has been sucha you could have a good matchso over wrestler not being able to quoteunquote Walker match declared gettingeverythingremember while most memorable match whomade that you thought over theirs I getthe same answer in tenders no question II’ve been working with rockets like Itold you they were sold to TurnerBroadcasting and I decidedand I got a joband by April of that year the wordAlbert Heijn 9 did Madison Square GardenNetwork MSN didthe matches from Madison Square Gardenat that afternoonbe fascinating mr. pagebeing fromcompared to everybody Madison SquareGarden is with us so now I’m callingmagical Madison Square Garden and we getinto an airplanenews network so I did Madison SquareGarden Network and Haman suppose neverand that’s the biggest that’s thebiggest day of the Ramblers what was theBoston match saying that so much I saymy big boss man his daughter has reachedout to me on social media because shelives here in Boston obviously passedaway some years ago we just started upbeat Boston fan club on social mediasell like when a daily basis show getshim I was always a big boss man goingback to the bodyguard for ronnie garvinright you know I just always liked hischaracter he was my favorite characterto play in the original WWF arcade gameyeah because the sidewalk slam rightjust thought that was the coolest moveagile for a big man to me you know thatkind of stunt my high school everyregrets for the the infamous tellingeverybody what’s going to be happeningon Monday Night Raw because it was tapedback with mankind no I don’t haveregrets to that but that was do what Iwas told and it’s funny thata lot of things remember that honeyas why should yeah it makes you fansthink that but I had that much impact onthe businessokay but you go back and you watch and Iwatched on the other side if I can watchthe nitros America’s sharpest we thecommentator on attending he told a allthe time mention what was on thatpavement ain’t did that all the time butthe big moment was when you developedAlexander Yorkthere you goSouth Asia okay already York fell orconsolidation uh Alexander York waslittle girl with the computer andeverything was computer made man likeMike Rotundo was mr. Michael Wall Streetyeah and Terry Taylor became TerrenceTaylor yeah Ricky mourn for him RichardMoore yeah there’s more they all werecomputer-based and that’s funny I mean Iremember now I remember them in the ringand their look but I know I for somereason he was she was Alexander YorkTerry Boatwright who went on to marryDustin and she became Marlena Wow andthat was your idea then your foundationhow did you go out of that I don’t knowshe and I talked and I had lunch one dayand we talked about what they wanted touse her she was uh and Terry and I stillfriends she was always gorgeous lookedbeautiful on camera and they onlyAnderson’s are bookedsince United Sevilla topwe came up with this computer and it’sodd now but cause of all the analyticsthey launched sports now we were
