With another day in South Korea in the books, my boy Sam from Samuel & Audrey and I headed out to get some Korean grilled beef (bulgogi) and some amazing craft beer for dinner! Come along with us as we enjoy even more mouthwatering Korean food!

We arrived in the bustling Hongdae area of Seoul, which is an entertainment district where you can find shops, street food, Western and Korean restaurants, and more. There are a lot of universities in the area, so there’s a lot of youth there! I couldn’t wait to explore Hongdae!
We started at a dart game along the street. It cost 5,000 won/$5.85 U.S. for 7 throws. I got three, and got a Korean stuffed animal as my prize, but I didn’t have a bag to put it in! Then we watched a local girl try!
We continued on down the street. This street was so much fun and you can’t find it anywhere else in the world. There were even dancers performing right on the street, so we stopped for a while to watch them put on a K-Pop show!
From there, we found lots of souvenirs, but it started raining, so we hunted down a restaurant so we could go inside. We found a popular, cozy place that sells bulgogi, which is marinated, grilled Korean beef.
I got some soju, some rice with seaweed, and a seaweed soup, all of which looked amazing! The woman came to the table and started making the bulgogi while I sampled the soju. It was like vodka, but smoother!
The seaweed soup is what people eat on their birthdays in Korea for luck. It was really tasty!
Meanwhile, the bulgogi had been topped with tons of bean sprouts. There were also some thick noodles and some rice cakes in it as well. Sam dove in first and loved it. Then, it was my turn!
I made sure to grab a bit of everything for my first bite. It was fantastic! It had a slight kick that made my lips tingle, but was a little sweet and had a crunch from the sprouts. The beef was also delicious, and the noodles reminded me of some buckwheat noodles I’d had in China. I also loved that we were sharing it, like a communal dish!
Next, the woman came and added some rice, seaweed, and cheese to the remaining bulgogi and mixed it all together. It looked and smelled incredible and I asked for a little bit of extra spicy sauce. She spread it out so you get some burnt, crispy rice on the bottom with cheese on top!
It was heavenly! The amount of flavor in it was insane. I especially loved the flavor of the seaweed in it! No one does fried rice better than Koreans. It was unbelievable! Our total for the meal was 36,000 won/$30.07 U.S., or roughly half of what I would spend on a good sushi dinner with my wife in Miami!
After our meal, we headed back out and played another dart game. I got six and won my daughter a stuffed dolphin! Then we looked for some craft beer because the regular beer is like water.
I ordered the Chimay white triple, which is their strongest and most expensive beer, while Sam ordered the slow IPA. Mine was a Belgian beer and was amazing! They also had lots of other beers and there was even a garden area outside. There were lots of young people there.
What a night! I think Hongdae is my favorite spot in Seoul!
