hi my name is Jeff from unconventionalcommander and guiyang has a specialplace in my heart guy yang is Thai stylegrilled chicken it’s so delicious thechicken is marinated with lovely spicesand herbs so when it’s grilled you get ataste unlike any other and I’ve beeneating it ever since I was six wheneverour family goes to the Thai restaurantwe like to order guiyang cuz it is thattasty so guy yang has a special place inmy heartfrom my childhood and as one of myfavorite foods so I wanted to show mylove for guy yang so how could I do itmake a commander deck a commander deckwhere chickens would be used as animportant theme or winning condition sothus begun my quest to build a grilledchicken commander deck the first problemthere weren’t enough chickens only 5cards with chicken in its card name ortype and I don’t want to use changelingswhilst they can be counted as chickensthey don’t look like chickens sopersonally it felt like usingchangelings would do injustice to mycherished dish of guy yang so I was doneI couldn’t find the chickens I neededfor my deck but then I went to thepre-release for Farris beyond death oneof my pre-release cars captivated myinterest Phoenix of Ashe its artworkcaptivated me this bird was clearly onfire like it was constantly embracingits flames like it was being grilled andso my mind thought if chickens are Birdsthen Phoenix’s from MTG could representchickens that are being grilled and thegood news was there was plenty ofPhoenix’s in MTG I wanted grilledchickens or Phoenix’s to represent aprominent theme or winning condition ofmy commander deck so before I couldchoose a commander I had to understandthecharacteristics of Phoenix’s in theworld of MTG some of them have hastethey generally have low power but theyrequire red mana to cast and moreimportantly they have flyingso what commander could make the most ofthe characteristics of Phoenix’s in myresearch I came acrossGrenn’s Oh havoc razor despite Grenvilleonly having red as its color identity Icould still use most of the Phoenix’s inMTG and as Phoenix’s have flying I coulduse their evasive maneuver ability totrigger grand Zoe’s ability so I decidedto makeGrenn’s Oh havoc razor my commander formy grilled chicken commander deck but atthe time of this video there were only22 Phoenix’s which I could use for thisdeck I still needed more creatures itwas then a question popped into my mindif Phoenix’s were there chickens beinggrilled chickens don’t just growthemselves what or who was grillingthese chickens in other words how ourPhoenix is born and here was themake-believe answer I came withcreatures or people with the fire powerto grilled chickens but more importantlydragons no not the electric shootingdragons fire-breathing dragons thesedragons were the ones grilling thechickens giving birth to the Phoenix’sthey also had flying so he could help metrigger grenda’s ability so Iincorporated dragons as anothersub-theme to the deck and with the helpof dragons I could add more creatures torepresent my grilled chicken commanderdeck so I ended up with a deck withGrenn’s Oh havoc razor has my commandera commander deck with the majority of mycreatures as either the Phoenix’s thegrilled chickens themselves or theDragons grilling their chickensunfortunately due to the Cova 19situation in AustraliaI haven’t been able to properly playtest this in a commander game hopefullyI’ll share with you my play testexperience of this deck in a lot ofvideo in the future because I’m lookingforward to playing a fun deck wherechickens and dragons could affect thegame in unexpected ways I’m lookingforward to playing the stack whichcelebrates my passion of the tastyguiyang grilled chicken
