Deep-fried chicken wings have long been a staple of Southern cooking. But the concept of cooking wings in peppery hot sauce was born in 1964 at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, when co-owner Teressa Bellissimo cooked leftover wings in hot sauce as a late-night snack for her son and his friends. The guys liked them so much that the Bellissimos put them on the menu the next day. Served with celery slices and bleu cheese sauce, “Buffalo Wings” were an instant hit.
Ingredients:
650g Chicken Wings
1 1/2tsp Paprika
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Black Pepper
1 1/2tsp Garlic Powder
1 1/2 tsp of onion powder
11/2 tsp of ginger powder
1 tbsp Cornflour
1 tbsp Plain Flour
2 tbsp tobacco
1 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
Method:
1. In a bowl, add the paprika, onion powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder,ginger powder, Tabasco sauce and marinate the chicken wings
2. Mix to combine and set
3. Add the cornflour and plain flour
4. Mix again and ensure that all the ingredients are fully coating the chicken wings
5. In a deep fryer, add the chicken wings
6. Cook on high heat for 6-8 minutes until golden brown
7. Remove from the deep fryer and set aside
8. In a pan, add the tomato ketchup ,pepper and Tabasco sauce, paprika and little sugar
9. Mix on low heat until fully combined
10. Add the fried chicken wings and coat the sauce onto the wings evenly
11. Serve immediately alongside crispy fries and a green salad then enjoy!
