Shawarma is basically roasting of well-marinated meat(traditionally lamb or mutton) on horizontal spits.The thin slices are stacked on a skewer where it’s slow-roasted in its own juices and fat until perfectly tender.Extra fat may also be added to provide for juiciness and flavor.Shavings are cut off the rotating stack for serving.Typically , Shawarma is commonly served as a sandwich or wrap, in a flatbread such as pita with tahini sauce along with heaps upon heaps of fresh toppings!
In this video we tried to replicate the flavor of shawarma at home. For our easy homemade version ,we chose Chicken to form our Shawarma. It doesn’t cook on a spit, but it’s got all the flavor that you might expect from your local Middle Eastern restaurant!
For sake of convenience , we divided the entire video length in few steps : starting with Chicken Marination , Preparartion of Pita Bread
Making of Tahini Sauce and lastly roasting and serving(goes almost parallely).
As a wrapper we prepared a simple flatbread(Pita) and to infuse that ‘exact’ flavour we also made Tahini Sauce – Middle Eastern condiment that is
served with many dishes from the region .
This homemade version is one of our favorite Middle Eastern street foods!
