hey guys today we are doing somethingvery different normally we are out on anadventure but this time today we’rebringing you into our kitchen to showyou how to cut up a jackfruit and makeone of our favourite recipes calledsloppy Jack’s it’s a variation of thesloppy joe but its plant-based verymeaty nonetheless gonna be delicious ohmy heaven if you want more saturdays inyour life to have more adventure andlearn the life hacks that will give youmore freedom and happiness start now bysubscribing and clicking the bell so youdon’t miss a thing so check this thingout this is a little over 18 poundsbelieve it or not this actually grows ona tree you see the stem there it isinsane and it kind of grows off of thetrunk looks like a big old knob so thisgrows on a tree called the jack tree andJack Treves believe it or not canproduce 100 to 200 of these per year sothat’s like 2 3 tons of food which isinsane and you can eat almost the entirething actually we planted a jackfruittree from a seed we planted this jacktree about seven years ago well we don’thave fruit yet but we still hope I’mgonna give it a big hug give it a littlelove maybe it’ll grow better yeah andthis jackfruit comes from the tropicswell it could be South Florida it couldbe the Caribbean it could be SouthPacific California really anywherethat’s warm enough in fact we actuallypicked this up at our local grocerystore because it’s actually gettingthere popular it was only 99 cents apound crazy I thought it was a steal thelast time we are jackfruit we actuallywent all the way down to homesteadfloridaso say you’re shopping for a jackfruitand you find it maybe in your agentmarket maybe if you’re lucky enough inyour grocery store or maybe somewherefar away down in the tropics to tell ifthis is actually ready yetyou would look at the color first ifit’s a bright green that means it’s ayoung jackfruit and it’s not ready justtake a smell of it it’s crazy it smellslike bubblegum the spots so say it’sstarting to turn a little bit darker ofa color it’s not so green and you startto see these little brown areas on itand then you press on it and it’s just alittle bit soft it has a little bit ofgive it is ready now there are a coupledifferent ways to cut a jackfruit butwe’re gonna show you the best way to getall of the fruit and all of the fleshand everything out of it so you can usethe entire thing but first we have tocoat the NIH’s with a little bit of oilwe like to use coconut oil and thereason we’re doing this is because it isvery sticky in here especially thecenter part there’s a lot of SAP and itis unbelievably sticky it’s verydifficult to take off your face that’sreal glue yes most people I would sayjust coat their hands with oil as wellbut we’re gonna go a step further we’regonna use gloves all right here we gothe knife that you picked you might wanta really long one so you get into thecenter of it got to put a little bit offorce into it okay we’ve made our cutdown on one side of it now we’re gonnaflip it over they’re gonna continue thatline now this has really big seedsinside so you might actually hit a seathere andokay we got our two halves here wowthat’s amazing oh look how beautifulthat looks beautifulI can smell it it really does smell likebubblegum look at that that’s the hardcore you can see the sap forming righttherethis stuff is seriously sticky glue youcan see the three different types offruit that makes up the jackfruit sowe’ve got the seeds it’s surrounded by ayellow pie sweet really vicious fruitand you can see the stringy stuff thatstuff is actually edible but most peopledon’t even talk about it and they justthrow it out it’s a waste that’s a wasteof this fruit no not really any good byitself but it’s what will make thesloppy Jack’s width so let’s get alittle farther into this we’re gonna cutit lengthwise one more time to make iteasier to get into the fruit corn is notedible so since we have it in a quarterpiece it’s gonna be easier to slice outthe core you can see as we’re cuttingthis that we’re gonna have a lot ofwasteso we have our compost Bowl we’re alsogoing to have our pulled pork or sloppyJack bull we’re gonna have our fruitpods very fruity Bowl and we’re gonnahave the seed bowl so as we cut this upwe’re going to divide it into thedifferent bowls a lot of people kind ofdo this with it be a little easier totake off the pods look at that cool yeahit looks like these just pull right outnow it is really hard not to eat this asyou go cuz these are so so good did youknow a jackfruit tree can live about 600years I did not know that one look atthis beautiful jackfruit if you guys cansmell this right now it’s amazing Ithink see how it would definitely beeasier not to collect these littlestringy parts this is very very popularamong the vegetarian andcommunity because it’s like the textureof it is actually very needy so a couplethings that you can do with these seedsyou can either boil them or you can youmake them just like chestnuts you canactually roast them so put them on a panroast them and they’ll get a little bitsoft and they’ll take on kind of achestnut flavor okay I’m gonna go inwith a knife on the rest of this oneover here boy one of these days we’regonna be done preparing this thing whewwe just got done that was a long processso out of all this fruit the part thatwe’re gonna use for the sloppy Jack’s isthis portion which is the pulled porklooking stuff it’s also the stickiestand you’re gonna be able to flavor itwith whatever flavor you want so we havean amazing recipe for you this is allgonna go on a toasted bun it’s gonna bereally good I think I would eat thisevery single day over any other recipesurprisingly it’s one of my favoritestoo I wasn’t so sure about havingbarbecue fruit but once you try thisit’s really really good all right guysit is finally time to make our pulledpork sandwiches out of jackfruit ameatless option that is unbelievable andeven meat-eaters love it alright firststep is you need three cups of thestringy part of the jackfruit stillsuper fresh after three days which isawesome and then we’re gonna need twoonions and you know how much I lovecutting up onions uhnot this recipe is super easy which isreally the only reason you’ll see mecooking it because I don’t likecomplicated recipes and the other thingyou’ll notice as we’re cooking is thismiddle of the renovation stuff I know itlooks pretty bad right now but it’sgonna look amazing when it’s done yougotta turn it on a medium heat and putsome coconut oil in there I think itadds to the flavor andkind of gives it that hearty flavor Ilove the smell okay so I’m gonna put agood amount I’m gonna put about yeahthat’s a good amount probably about acouple tablespoons worth okay so that’sgonna start going we might as well putthe gasoline in at one time get allthose strands in there we’re gonna letthis cook down until the onions are alittle bit translucent and then it willbe time to put on the spices and I havea really good combination of spices toshare with you oh wow you could smellthis right now it smells so goodbut check on it in about another 10minutesthey’re getting a little bit see-throughso what we want to do is go ahead andadd those spices so here’s the recipeyou ready half a teaspoon of pepper andtwo teaspoons of salt tools our thatwe have some additional spices that’sgonna give it the flavorhomemade barbecue we’ve got 3/4 ateaspoon of cumin powder we’ve got oneteaspoon of paprika powder and oneteaspoon of chili powder can’t go wrongwith thatput that in there last but not least welike a little kick to our food so we’regonna add also a half teaspoon ofcayenne powder for those of you whodon’t like too much spice I wouldprobably just leave this out so now whatwe’re gonna do is put the top on it andlet it sit for about another 10 minutesit’s smelling amazing in here I’m gonnatake a peek and see if it’s done so itis ready but I’m gonna set it asidebecause we have the jackfruit seedsgoing to different kinds that we’regonna get to try out so like we saidbefore you can eat the entire jackfruitincluding the seeds so these we aregoing to boil and these were gonna roastspread these out on a pan so we tweakedthe oven 400 degrees okay in 20 minuteswe’re gonna have jackfruit chestnuts Wowour roasted jackfruit seeds are done butwe’re gonna let them set for maybe 20ish minutes because they’re really hotright now we could burn ourselves oncethey’re done though and we can just kindof peel the seeds and eat them just likechestnuts these get a little bit trickyso look at thatso now that we have them roasted givethis a taste test it’s definitely prettystarchy I can see why people thinkthey’re similar to a chestnut it’s notquite a chestnut but it’s close to it’sa little bit nutty a little littlepotato ish not bad thoughso for boiling the jackfruit seeds fillthe pot with water we’re just gonnacover it just above the jackfruit seedsand then put a little bit of salt we’regonna boil this for 30 minutes seedswill start to swell breaking the skin sothen it’ll be easier to peel now oncethese are cooled down you have to driedthem off too because there are slipperylittle things I tried to dry them off asmuch as I could but they’re still prettyslippery check that outskins actually come off pretty easy onthe boy loved ones see would these tastelike versus the roasted ones mm-hmmthose are definitely a little more likea potato you can make jackfruit seedpotato soup by blending it up and itgets kind of creamy some people evenmake a hummus out of this I would saythe verdict though for me if I was goingto cook the seat that would definitelybe boiling it’s time to eat our pulledjackfruit sandwich that we’re callingthe sloppy Jack whoo take on sloppy joethe last little tip on flavor that wecan add to this right before we eat itis a splash of liquid smoke so I’m gonnaput a couple flashes of that oh I cansmell it mmm it smells so good look atthatoh my goodness hey this really is gonnabe sloppy isn’t it and then the lastfinishing touch is barbecue sauce ofyour choice I like to just put a drizzledoes this not look amazing haha it’s hotlike want to let it cool down a littlebit I’m just so excited let me cool itdownguys this is outstanding I mean reallylook at that mmm it’s got so much flavorit’s amazing actually it’s definitely alittle spicy I can taste that Cayenne wereally hope you’ve enjoyed thisjackfruit Avenger with us do you likethis video give us a like be sure tosubscribe it helps us out a ton and formore
