Five Spice Grilled Pork || Thịt Nướng Ngũ Vị || Cooking for One

Grilled Pork with Five Spice Flavor with two different dishes: Grilled Pork Banh Mi (Vietnamese Sandwich) and Grilled Pork Vermicelli.

For the grilled pork:
– 500g of pork
– 3 shallots
– 4 cloves of garlic
– 2 lemongrass
– Seasoning: sesame oil, soy sauce, fish sauce, honey, paprika, five spice powder, sugar and sesame seeds.
How to make: slice the pork into thin slice, mix with minced shallots, garlic and lemongrass. Season to taste. Marinate for 30 minutes and grill using cast iron skillet/oven or charcoal.

Homemade Mayonnaise:
– 1 egg
– 1 clove of garlic, minced
– 1 tsp of salt
– 1.5 cups of vegetable oil
How to make: whisk egg, garlic and salt on low speed and add oil slowly (1 tbsp at a time). After 1 min, increase to medium speed and keep adding oil. After 3 minutes, increase to high speed and beat until the mayonnaise no longer sticks to the bowl. Transfer to a tight container and store in the fridge. Use up to 3 days.

Carrot and Radish Pickle:
– 1 daikon radish
– 5 carrots
– Vinegar
– Sugar
– Water
How to make: slice the daikon radish and carrot into thin strips, soak in salt for 15 minutes. Rinse off with water and add in vinegar mixture (1 part vinegar, 2 parts water and 3 tbsp of sugar). Store in the fridge, seal the container tightly.

Vermicelli Fish Sauce:
– 1/2 cup of Fish Sauce
– 1 cup Water
– 2 tbsp Sugar
– Thai Pepper
How to make: mix water with sugar until dissolve, add fish sauce and diced Thai pepper.
